Olympic athletes can function so well under the extreme pressure of the Games because they train for years! They learn to put together all their resources, physical as well as mental and psychological. Physical excellence alone doesn’t set apart winners from non-winners. All things being equal, those who have the greater mental strength and mastery of their emotions win.
There is a strong connection between our mental state and our performance. Training in intense concentration, mental strength, mood management, mind over matter, and crisis management can help athletes to perform at their highest potential. Since we all need these qualities, here a few of the basic principles needed to trigger your ideal performance state, creating success for yourself in whatever arena you are performing in… be it business, sports, raising children or whatever.
So let’s get started with our training!
It’s very important to monitor our personal energy states when we perform and be able to trigger High Positive Energy states such as enthusiasm, joy, excitement, laughter, awe, etc. during performances. You then must be able to go to Low Positive energy states such as rest, relaxation, quietly playing, etc. afterwards to recover. Negative energy dissipates your concentration and works against you.
Thinking and Visualizing is also extremely important. Decide precisely what you want to accomplish. Make a clear mental picture and at least twice a day, go somewhere private, clear your mind and think about your goal, visualizing it as if it is already happening. If you can meditate, use this time to internalize these pictures and you won’t believe how quickly your thoughts can become your reality.
Focus on your best moves, your power moves. Top performers constantly focus on their power moves rather than on the outcome. This concentrates their powers for excellent performance. The experience of “flow,” a state of perfect mind-body unison during performance, results from intense concentration on the task at hand and suspension of the outcome.
Reduce your general level of stress. Learn deep breathing, controlled breathing, and muscle relaxation exercises. You probably have noticed athletes doing just that as they wait for their turn to compete. Aerobic and anaerobic exercises to maintain peak energy and clear thinking should be added to the mix along with some good deep diaphragmatic breathing as well as plenty of sleep.
Prepare for the task by doing both “mental practice” and actual practice. Mental practice consists of visualizing a perfect performance in detail. When you combine the two type of practices in the preparatory period, you can attain a greater mastery of the task.
Picture the whole sequence of actions in your mind, before you start. Master artists visualize a whole picture, in their mind’s eve before they pick up a brush. Mentally trained athletes visualize the whole sequence of their intended feat before they actually perform it.
Work on each of these areas for the next 4 weeks, tracking and assessing your progress, and you’ll have placed yourself in training for the most important event ever. Your Life!
There are also some very powerful self-help programs such as Stop Begging! Start Manifesting at http://SelfHelp.makingit.info/manifesting.htm which can help with this process.
Remember, for you as with the Olympic athletes, there really isn’t such a thing as luck. Your success is due to your own self help motivation and efforts.
Your Success Happens Because of Your Own Olympic Efforts!
You’re fired! … You’re laid off… The business is closed…
Oh Lord, what am I going to do now? How will I pay the rent? …feed my family? …pay the bills?
The most frightening thing of all is the fear of the unknown. And when the unknown includes something as basic as your own survival and that of your loved ones, your panic kicks into overdrive. Your reactions are automatic. You’re into the ‘Fight or Flight Syndrome’ and your ability to think clearly is severely compromised.
You start worrying incessantly. How will I survive? . . What if I lose the house? . . Could I have done anything differently? . . Should I have left earlier? . .
STOP!! The above scenario is so very familiar – and so very self-defeating! What you’re doing is looking back at the past (which you no longer can do anything about) and worrying about the future (and most of the thing you worry about, according to statistics, will likely never happen).
What you need to do is change your thinking!
Here is a strategy which will ALWAYS work:
1. First, you must stop worrying. Worrying is always counter-productive. The more you think about something the more you bring it about in your life.
“Thoughts are things and they come to pass
the world is but your looking glass”
2. The easiest way to stop worrying about something is to construct a plan to tackle it. Now think things through. Get a paper and pencil and put every solution you can think of in writing – even the most far fetched ideas. Think “Solution instead of “Problem” and you’ll be amazed at what comes to mind.
3. Take Action. Plan steps to take. Make phone calls. Write letters. Talk to people. There’s always at least one step which you can take today.
4. Know within yourself that you are in the process of creating your solution. Know that the universe is working with you and that you’re not alone in this. Once you’ve started this process ideas will come, people will come and the first thing you know, the problem is turning around. HAVE FAITH IN THE PROCESS!
5. Be open to all the wonderful and amazing things that will start happening in the next few days. Remember though, your idea of the perfect solution may not be the best one for you at this time. Be open to all possibilities and you, like I did, will look back on this time of potential stress and trauma and realize that instead it was a time of Miracles of your own making.
The universe is intrinsically abundant. Everything is available to you. Your part in the process is to decide what you want, be very clear about it, do everything you can do to bring it about, then have faith in the process knowing that impossible dreams are already in process.
Once you get to this step, do what you can yourself and then hand it to the universe and RELAX! The most exciting things happen when you’re not looking.
This strategy can be used for any problem which you have in your life.
A great resource to learn to use this process is to read
Simple Steps to IMPOSSIBLE DREAMS By Steven K. Scott. I found it very helpful in getting the hang of this process.
Use this method. Joy and Peace will be your reward.
Everyone has dreamed of doing something grand some day – or being someone special. Who hasn’t fantasized about being the one who hits the game-winning basket? Who hasn’t dreamed of being the homecoming queen? And how many times have we dreamed of being wealthy, or very successful?
Often, we dream big dreams and have great aspirations – but most of the time our dreams remain just that – dreams. Instead of experiencing exciting adventures in self actualization, we get caught up in day-to-day living.
Did you know that it doesn’t have to be that way?
Dreams are the stuff of our own future. A big exciting dream, written on paper, repeated frequently with excitement until your mouth waters in anticipation is only a stone’s throw away from coming alive. Once you believe in that big goal and start making plans for its accomplishment, the universe moves with you to help you reach that goal.
Did you ever notice that when you’re really excited about something, strange and wonderful things begin to happen? Someone shows up out of the blue and tells you something that moves you forward. A friend call and reminds you of an incident in the past that you can draw upon for planning. You hear a tape or a song with just the message you need. Money shows up in a totally unexpected way.
If you limit yourself with self-doubt, and self-limiting assumptions, you will never start working towards the goal because you’ll think it’s impossible.
It’s also unwise to set a goal that is truly unrealistic. If you’re five feet tall, becoming a basketball star would probably be very difficult. However, just because something seems impossible to you now, if you truly want it and start persuing it with a passion, the answers will come.
If your goal is to become successful, but you don’t have any specific idea of what you’d like to do, then try this tactic:
1. Start daily visualizations of what you’ll do when you’re successful. See yourself sunning on a beach in Tuscany. Or jetting off to Hawaii. Or flying your own jet. Or buying a new house.
2. Stay excited about it, dream about it and see yourself reaching that goal.
3. Now stay open to all posibilities. Look for opportunities in everything you do
Suddenly ideas will start to bubble. You’ll see a new possibility and voila! The road to achieving it will suddenly become clear. People to help you will pop up everywhere. Coincidences will appear and you’ll feel as though you have a roadmap to your destination. It’ll be FUN – and suddenly it’ll be EASY!
Once that starts to happen it’s entirely up to you to follow you inner guidance, because it’ll all be there.
That’s how to make your dreams come true. All things are possible to the person who is open to his inner guidance.
Don’t limit your imagination. Aim high, and start working towards that goal little by little.
If you told someone a hundred years ago that it was possible for man to be on the moon, they would laugh at you. If you had told them that you could send mail from here to the other side of the world in a few seconds, they would say you were out of your mind. But, through sheer desire and perseverance, these impossible dreams are now realities.
Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be more true. For one to accomplish his or her dreams, there has to be work and discipline, but you will always have the help of your higher self.so it’ll be enjoyable.
So dream on, friend! Don’t get caught up with your perceived limitations. Think big and work hard to attain those dreams.
